Ohio Addiction Treatment

You may suspect that you or a loved one has a problem with addiction or substance abuse. But how do you know if it is time for treatment? There are several key things to watch for. Ohio addiction treatment centers have counselors who can help advise you in the matter as well.

There are some behaviors and attitudes to watch for that may signify addiction has entered your life or that of a loved one. Addicts are commonly withdrawn, lethargic, unmotivated and cynical. They may be overly suspicious of others, almost to the point of paranoia. Depending on the substance being abused, an addict could behave in a completely opposite fashion. They may be wild and completely uninhibited, behaving erratically and possibly even with anger and aggression. There will typically be “roller coaster” mood swings, moments of extreme exuberance tempered with “lows” of severe depression.

Such behavior may be described as “manic depressive,” or “bipolar,” which are disorders commonly seen co-occurring with addiction. Ultimately, it is time for Ohio addiction treatment only when the addict decides it is time. You may think it’s time, but the addict ultimately has to accept that fact before treatment will be even remotely successful.

Those who enter Ohio addiction treatment against their will, or even reluctantly, at the urging of others, will often see very mixed results. Some will quit and some will complete the program. Of those who complete it, some will relapse and some will not. That’s not to say voluntary commitment to an addiction treatment program has a 100-percent success rate. It certainly does not, but treatment does tend to go better when the addict makes up his or her own mind to do the program. Then they are truly there because they want to be, and for no other reason.
