Alcohol Rehab Programs

There are many different types of alcohol rehab programs. It is important to find the right one for you so you can maximize your time in alcohol rehab and emerge a stronger, healthier person.

Outpatient alcohol rehab programs

These outpatient programs require more accountability in that the alcoholic is living each day outside the facility. They visit the treatment center for therapy, counseling and maybe even some life skills classes, but do not receive around-the-clock care or supervision. They are still dealing on a daily basis with all the same stresses and temptations that originally fueled their alcohol problem.

Outpatient alcohol rehab programs work better for those with less severe, prolonged alcohol addictions. It especially works for those who cannot put aside work or family obligations for 30 days or more, the typical length of stay in an inpatient program.

Inpatient alcohol rehab programs

These are designed for the severe, long-term alcoholic. Though some alcoholics choose to set aside work and family obligations to attend an inpatient program, many who enter do not have such obligations. Many have alienated their relatives and ruined their careers, and have become completely dysfunctional alcoholics.

Inpatient alcohol rehab programs will offer 24-hour supervision and medical care. If a person is feeling suicidal, or experiencing physical health problems, someone will be there to intervene. Detoxification, the process of the body ridding itself of the toxins accumulated throughout the addiction, can be excruciatingly painful and harmful to the body if handled incorrectly. That’s one of the reasons the presence of a licensed medical specialist is particularly useful.

Hospital-based alcohol rehab programs

Here, around-the-clock medical care is also provided, of course. This is a very clinical-style approach to detox and recovery. While inpatient treatment lasts 30 days or more, hospital-based care will last two weeks at most. Typically, hospital-based alcohol rehab programs last just long enough to complete detox, and patients are then transferred to inpatient or outpatient programs.

Alcohol rehab programs have other differences too, including addiction philosophy, detox methods, treatment approach, length of stay, etc. The main criteria to look for is a caring, dedicated staff truly focused on helping you get well. A Forever Recovery is an example of such a program. The staff is dedicated to the health and well-being of its patients, and helping them achieve the life they deserve.
