Alcohol Rehabs

What Should I Know About Alcohol Rehabs?

There are many different types of alcohol rehabs. The right one is an individual choice because circumstances can vary greatly, depending on the addiction experience. The importance of selecting the right program, however, cannot be overstated. This will be a big part of the recovering alcoholic’s life over the next 30 days, and a crucial part of their recovery success.

What Types of Alcohol Rehabs Are There?

Outpatient Alcohol Rehabs

Alcohol RehabsThis type of program will allow recovering alcoholics to receive their counseling and therapy on an outpatient basis. Essentially, they visit the center for treatment during the days and return home each evening. This typically involves a weekly time commitment of 16 to 20 hours, so work and home obligations can be maintained.

Inpatient Alcohol Rehabs

This type of program provides more intensive treatment, with around-the-clock medical supervision and on-site detoxification. This involves about a 30-day commitment, ideal for more severe alcohol addictions. It is also ideal for those with severe mental or physical complications related to the alcoholism. Whereas outpatient alcohol rehabs rely on an addict’s home environment to be supportive and substance-free, inpatient alcohol rehabs remove the alcoholic from that environment and protect them from temptation while they focus on recovery.

Partial Hospitalization Alcohol Rehabs

Alcohol RehabsThis type of treatment involves a brief stay in a hospital wing dedicated to medical treatment throughout the detoxification process. After this is complete, typically around 3 to 5 days, the patient is transferred to one of the local inpatient alcohol rehabs for continued treatment of the addiction and any co-occurring disorders.
